Effective fleet solutions

When a large fleet needs to reduce operating costs by 10%, the simplest answer becomes the best. Hooghiemstra Logistical Services implemented Cartrack's fleet management technology to help Fabucon Logistics track spending as well as monitor driver behavior and route selection. This seemingly insignificant detail has far-reaching consequences, such as the fact that both companies realized for the first time the exact amount of money needed to keep their business growing and developing. Gjalt Hooghiemstra explains: "Cartrack's fleet management technology has greatly helped us measure Fabucon's actual fleet costs, fuel costs and driver behaviour. ”

The main goal of the Fabucon Fleet Management Project is to reduce fleet operating costs by at least 10%, as well as lower carbon emissions and fewer accidents while improving driver behavior by 50-60%.

Take advantage of Cartrack's wide range of fleet management services and tools, such as driver behavior and networking (braking, speeding, etc.), to help Fabucon's fleet vehicles be operated more optimally by drivers.

Hooghiemstra said the results of the implementation were very satisfactory. "Fleet routes are regularly evaluated using Cartrack's tracking reports to ensure the lowest possible distance travelled. The package's connected car functionality also ensures that there are no unplanned maintenance costs, mainly thanks to a significant reduction in overspeeding and hard braking incidents. ”

"We are also very pleased to report that there have been no major accidents in the fleet in six months, which is surprising and a remarkable achievement if you consider that more than 140,000 kilometers are driven seven days a week. The overall result is more manageable fuel costs, a significant reduction in accident rates and a fleet operating at optimal capacity," Hooghiemstra added.

The project has also significantly improved Fabucon's carbon footprint by reducing carbon emissions by 5.9 tonnes per year. "This is made possible by Cartrack's fleet management technology, which combines driver training and the launch of a driver incentive program."

The end result of fleet management is something called driver scoring, which essentially measures the performance of drivers based on parameters set by fleet owners. Driver ratings can be used to motivate good driving behavior, and when combined with fuel consumption, it can have a substantial impact on the profitability of a business.

However, the best is yet to come, as Hooghiemstra Logistical Services won the Green Supply Chain Award 2011 for its best project (under R1 million) in implementing fleet management at Fabucon Logistics. Hooghiemstra said: "It is a huge honour for our green efforts to be recognised with such an outstanding award. "This reinforces the fact that environmental protection is no longer an option, but a business imperative," he concluded. ”
